This was an entertaining movie and is a sure blockbuster for the year. The on screen chemistry between Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise made thismovie worth watching. The acting was fantastic and the action sceneskept your adrenaline going. Definitely one of the best action/comedymovies of the year! Tom Cruise was excellent and really brought thecharacter to life. He is sure to be nominated for an Oscar. CameronDiaz proved to be one of Hollywood's best actress. She continues toshine as a comedian. Cameron is sure to receive a nomination for bestsupporting actress. The screen play was superb and cinematography issure to win an Oscar. This was a very action packed, comedy. If youlove action you will love Knight and Day.
One of the best movies of the year!
When I first saw the trailer while in the theater for Avatar, which wasan AWESOME movie and i loved the environmental message in it! Theeffects were astounding and candy to the naked human eye! Anyway backto the Knight and Day trailer! When I first saw it while at the theaterfor Avatar which was an awesome movie, I first thought it was a goodtrailer before the movie Avatar! I thought the chemistry between Tomand Cam was Nsync! Sort of how the Nav'i were Nsync in Avatar! back tothe movie. Overall this was a bad movie and the only reason why i giveit a 10 out of 10 was because the chemistry was superb between Tom andCam Sort of how the chemistry between the Nav'i and the guy who wantshis legs back...his real legs! I said it before and i'll say it againit was a terrible movie and the only reason i give it a 10 out of 10 isbecause of the chemistry was just spot on between Cam and Tom!

TOM CRUISE and CAMERON DIAZ seem to be having a wonderful "crime" inthis amusing caper set up as an espionage thriller which succeeds inbeing a fun romantic action film with lots of over-the-top actionsequences and some well delivered and breezy comic byplay.
With some tantalizing scenic eye candy along the way (Spain,California, Jamaica, etc.), and some aggressive stunt work, the scriptunwinds at a brisk pace as soon as Cruise and Diaz lock eyes on eachother and never lets up the pace. I'll omit details of the busy plot.
PETER SARSGAARD has a rather colorless role as the villain of the piecebut VIOLA DAVIS is quite effective as a principal player in the schemeof things.
For light-hearted entertainment, this one should leave patronssatisfied, even if the ending is somewhat predictable. The fact thatnothing else about the plot is cut and dry will keep fans awake for agood summer blockbuster.
Cruise shows he still as the right stuff and Diaz is refreshing as theinnocent victim who goes along for the ride.
I do enjoy it when people put down a movie because it is not the nextCitizen Kane. Those people are elitist snobs, and can find no enjoymentin life. Not sure if this is a spoiler, but I was a little upset thatmost of the gags were in the previews I saw on TV. That did not takemuch away from the enjoyment, but to have seen them fresh would havebeen better. I do enjoy Tom Cruise when he is not trying to be serious. The character is, but the actor had fun with it. I will say that Diazcould have been replaced by another without much changing, but she didwell enough with her part. Overall, a fun movie to see. Grab somepopcorn, and have a good time.
User: nellygal5I went to go see Knight and Day in theaters and I must say, CameronDiaz and Tom Cruise really showed an amazing performance. I absolutelyLOVE this movie. Not only is it an exciting action/comedy with romance, but it is one of the most genuine movies I have seen in a long time.I've went back to see Knight & Day multiple times in theater becauseI've enjoyed it so much. There are so many movies, especially intoday's day where they are all made as a box office hit and to make asmuch money as possible, but this movie is truly original and extremelyentertaining. Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise have amazing chemistry andproduce a masterpiece when they work together (not including VanillaSky). I absolutely Love this movie and HIGHLY recommend watching it
User: DICK STEELWhat a rush! Knight and Day delivers the quintessential summerblockbuster through a perfectly delivered adrenaline ride with bignames, action and comedy put together. Honestly The Killers, in asimilarly positioned film with the alpha-male and the ditzy blondepairing have paled in comparison with the real deal now on our shores, and it had likely boiled down to the star power that Tom Cruise andCameron Diaz still command in this part of the world, if sold outattendances here are any indication.
James Mangold's filmography currently covers a wide range of genres, and this experience had benefited him since Knight and Day containsplenty all rolled into one, with action, comedy, science fiction andeven serious drama all included. The story really is quite flimsy, ifnot for the constant twists and turns that actually put you in thedriver's seat and engage you in wondering who's who, and what's what, and just whose account you can trust, that of the suave spy, or thegirl in shock, or how about the authorities for that matter.
And success was due in part to comedy no less. Tom Cruise had shownthat he's adapt at being a comedic actor, with his now iconic LesGrossman from Tropic Thunder being the most memorable. He's notpushover as the action hero, though it's actually been-there-done-thatterritory as Roy Miller, who possesses this streak of recklessnessbalanced with expertise and superhuman abilities, who never seems to beputting in the wrong foot. Always seeming to be one step ahead of thegame, you'll be constantly positioned to question his motives, hisintent and wonder whether Miller is good, bad, or straddling both sidesas a double agent.
Cameron Diaz on the other hand with her sunshine smile and demeanour, makes for that perfect eye-candy from whom we follow the proceedings, where her June Havens bumps into Miller at the airport, and followingwhat she thought could be an opportunity for romance, soon findsherself wanted by a clandestine organization, shady underworld dealers, and somehow being doggedly in pursuit by Miller. She has no idea what'sgoing on and it is precisely us following this huge question mark thatproves to be half the fun.
Cruise and Diaz share great chemistry together, and it's been quite along time since they're last pairing together under limited screen timein Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky, where the highlight of their scene wasin a car careening off at high speeds. And it's no different here aswell, with their best scenes almost always involving planes, trains andautomobiles, including a high speed Ducarti chase with jeeps and bullseven through the busy streets in Spain. Action here is all non-flashy,but has enough pizazz to thrill and put you at the edge of your seat.
The one action sequence that stood out was the chase down the highwaywhere Miller rescues Havens with the sheer audacity of taking on anarmy of agents in a convoy of vehicles with shootouts, blowouts, andimpossibly executed stunts if not for computer technology. But noteverything's quite polished in the film, and the special effects werealarmingly raw for certain scenes, where you can spot the obvioussuperimposition. The other surprise was a narrative one, which allowedfor sticky situations to be explained away, for deft defying escapes tobe done without being shown, with cheats applied through fade toblacks. Which is a pity because Tom Cruise obviously did some, if notmost of his own stunts to make his character look the convincingbad-ass he is with the fluid leaps and jumps.
Still the film worked, with supporting characters like a veryrestrained Peter Sarsgaard, and an almost unrecognizable Paul Danoplaying quite one-dimensional roles. Ultimately it boiled down toCruise and Diaz playing to their strengths, and the other major pluspoint would be the original music by John Powell, which jazzed thisfilm up and added another dimension to this action-comedy. This is adefinite winner in this year's rather dismal summer season thus far.
I've been to the cinema last week with my husband and sister in law, weare 30 and she is 20: while we were very much up for having a look onDiaz last movie, she wasn't very keen on the movie trailer and most ofher skepticism was on the presence of Tom Cruise. After a week, we areall the 3 still laughing repeating some quotations from this comedy, soI was very surprised to read later that it didn't went well on the boxoffice in US, so I hope it ll do well in Europe and elsewhere as thescript has lot of nonsense but it is written to make you laugh, not todeliver a real action movie.Cruise, after the funny cameo in TropicThunder, carries on the way of taking some distance from himself anddeliver a self ironic portrait of hero but is Cameron Diaz the sunaround which the comedy engine works. There are a lot of scenes thatreminds famous scenes and typical situations of American movies:perhaps the American average audience didn't realize that these hintswere made as parody, not as mere recycling . Having seen this movie inoriginal language version in an international city full of expats fromevery corner of the world, I can tell you the whole room (500 seats)was laughing constantly. I rate it 9 not because its a masterpiece ofthe history of the cinema, but as a comedy it delivers very good funand if you are looking to watch a movie to have some relax this is asafe choice!
User: Jon Sharman (john-paul)Check your brain in at the door, grab some popcorn (or whatever yourpleasure) and watch two of the words biggest screen stars play to theirstrengths. Knight and Day is an action comedy, which sees Cruiserebuilding his brand in the way that he knows best (wielding weapons, performing daring stunts whilst brandishing a wry smile). On top ofthat Diaz plays the sort of goofball Rom Com role that she has made herown her throughout her career.
Cruise plays Roy Miller a rogue secret agent who is trying to protect aperpetual energy source and its creator from 'the bad guys'. A chanceencounter sees June Havens (played by Diaz) caught up in the situationand she finds herself being dragged along on an ultra-dangerous journeyto ensure the safety of Miller's charge and ultimately get her lifeback to normal.
The film is slick, has some very well crafted and choreographed fightsequences, cracking car chases and a twisting and turning plot that, although not overtly testing, does keep it fresh throughout. And ofcourse the on-screen chemistry works well meaning the romantic side ofthe tale does hold up in the face of all that is going on. On thenegative side the string of time passage sequences and the smatteringof cheesiness in places did leave me squirming in my seat at timessomewhat.
In summary if you're looking for some light entertainment with plentyof action Knight & Day will certainly put a smile on your face. Howeverdon't expect to remain in the realms of reality for long as this filmsteps off that plain pretty quickly and descends into a fanciful worldof clean cut espionage with a hint of tongue in cheek. Fresh is thekeyword here.
This is no where near a masterpiece, and I didn't expect it to be. Thisis a film that doesn't take itself seriously, and... it's great. I knowthis won't win any awards, and it doesn't deserve to. At the end of theday though, it's a movie that's supposed to entertain and it delivers.KNIGHT AND DAY is utterly hilarious, as well as having the perfectblend of action and comedy. I would give this one 5 stars, but there'stwo things that really bug me. The first 15 minutes really drag on, andwhen I say really, I mean REALLY. Once Cruise gets on that plane, themovie really picks up. The last 15 minutes are awful, and I absolutelyHATED the dialogue reversal thing they did. Sure, a quote or two wouldbe nice, referencing Roy and Junes time together, but an epic speech? No thanks. Overall though, this was bloody good fun. Cruise and Diazmake an unlikely couple, and Cruise himself makes this hilarious towatch. Oh, and I didn't understand the title. I get the Knight part, but who the hell is day?
I loved it. Highly recommended.
I rarely vote, and even more rarely write a review, but for this I willmake an exception. This was a really really good movie. Greatchemistry, good comedic timing (especially on TC's part-which was asurprise for me). This is the movie that Killers wanted to be, butwhile that one never quite lived up to it's potential, this wassurprising in that it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth theprice of the tickets and theater popcorn--and that's saying something.
The special effects were adequate, but not overpowering, the action wasfast, the chase scenes well executed, and while the plot was not allthat unusual or surprising, the characters were interesting and createdenough interest that I cared what happened to them.
All in all it was a good time, and good enough that I won't complain ifI "have to go to it again" so my wife can see it. It was enjoyableenough that I will watch it again--and that's not something I would sayfor many movies.
Good job, Cameron Diaz and Tom, welcome back!
The perfect, action movie for both men and women of all ages. It was abit like a James Bond movie - not too deep or intricate a plot - but alot more fun action scenes. My college daughter and I really enjoyed itand we both laughed out loud throughout the movie. The action was mixedwith lots of humor and the killing scenes were about as fun as theycould be. Both Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise were at their best and theylook great. Hard to believe Tom Cruise did all his own stunts. At timesCameron Diaz reminded me of Goldie Hawn in her old, funny movies. Iplan to see this again with my husband and I might break down and buythis one when it comes out on DVD.
User: blackmambamarkSay what you will about Tom Cruise, but the boy can act. What? He'scrazy because he believes in a religion that most don't follow, and hejumps on a couch on Oprah.....who cares. I like his movies. The day hestarts picking stupid roles, and starts acting poorly, then i will jumpon that band wagon. Until then, i'll keep seeing his pictures.
The movie starts out pretty well. The combination of a romantic comedyand an action flick is done with the correct dosage. It knew when to befunny, it knew when to be romantic, and it knew when to cut all thatoff and throw you into the action. But as the movie went on, it slowlybegan to loose that perfect dosage.
The second act started to loose me a bit. Mainly because it startedleaning towards the romantic side and forgetting the other elementsthat make this an entertaining movie. Rather than have a romanticsequence followed by a funny skit or an action sequence, it was just astraight laced lovey dovey scene. Now i know most of the femaleaudience will enjoy it.....but your male counterparts may find it a bitdull.
But the third act kind of drops the ball. Tom Cruise who plays thisfunny, witty, and very professional action hero, starts to loose someof the traits that make him entertaining to watch. And i do not blameMr. Cruise for this, i actually blame the writing. Because you can seeon screen how confused Tom Cruise is. In these situations where he issuppose to suave and charismatic, like he was in 90% of the movie, heis now scared and confused.........needless to say, it felt a littleout of place.
Bottom Line.......it was a pretty good popcorn flick. The setup isreally good, but i think that if they worked on the mechanics on thesecond and third act, it really could have been one of the summersbetter action movies. But i don't know if it was either trying to bethat, or one of the summers best romantic comedies. Either way, theresult leaves it as a decent action/romantic comedy.
I walked into the theater without high expectations and that may havebeen why I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. The firsttrailer I saw for this movie did the best job of foreshadowing thetheme, which is fun and entertaining without taking itself seriously;however, I later saw trailers that cast the movie more seriously andwant viewers to know this is NOT a serious action flick. It is a funand entertaining ride that has it's slow moments but is packed full ofgreat dialog that is laugh out loud funny at times. Unlike many moviegoers out there, I don't carry preconceived impressions of actor'spersonal lives into the theater. Tom Cruise plays his role amazinglyand really carries the movie with his serious humor. As long as youwalk into the movie expecting loads of over the top, well choreographedaction and spot on humor you will walk away satisfied, all in all it isa fun watch worth seeing.
User: familiesRockOK, the hangover had a lot of funny parts, but those scenes were set tomake you laugh AT the person in the movie. Knight and Day was just theopposite. It felt good to be laughing at intelligent humor, not to belaughing at how bad someone is. I even found myself laughing at thesame parts in the trailers I watched a dozen times. The plot andexecution of the stunts and lines kept me involved until I unknowinglyreached the punch line. Realizing what I had just witnessed had mejoining in with the rest of the audience in laughter. Totallyunexpected outcomes.
I heard Tom Cruise does a lot of his own stunts and wondered how manyhe did in this movie. Many scenes looked like it was him in verydangerous situations. Some even with Cameron Diaz. I don't know howtheir insurance company could allow it.
The plot had many twists and change ups that had me wondering to theend of the film. The movie is filled with these little details thatcrack you up in laughter. It is a movie that you could see severaltimes and it would still keep you in stitches. It will leave you withmany favorite scenes you will remember for some time to come.
Some things work in spite of themselves. Like the Agency depicted, thisfilm is its own worst enemy, clumsily shooting itself at randomopportunities. It should simply self-destruct. This is one of thosefilms-by-frightened-committee that are rewritten and reshot inprogress, so it has no central tone and it has unintegrated fantasies. The plot devices are borrowed from a bygone film legacy and neitherhonored nor improved. The two actors are among our worst when in thismode: their anchor gestures at being appealing.
The cinematic novelty is not there, at all. The locations... well, let's just say that everything negative reviews are saying I agreewith. But I loved it, because they did one thing well. This is a lovestory of a very special kind that Hollywood nurtures. There is noanchor for this outside of films, and yet it seems so natural andappealing that it seems the creator started with just this notion ofromance.
Hollywood doesn't support this by accident, or without effort. Someoneknew that no matter what else fails in this film, the spine of thismagical romance must be preserved. All else are merely tokens thatprovide an energetic context for an encounter between a man and awoman, initial reservation and then total, total commitment. Checkthis, it ends with them both cut off from the outside world, on the runin her (metaphorically loaded, powerful) vehicle, heading for thefurthest destination known.
I know. Elsewhere these two actors and the type of character they playrepels. But they fall close enough to the fantasy that we ignore themand watch the movie we invent in our inner eye.
Both of these actors are too old to play themselves. There is noacknowledgement that they are twice as old as the characters they play. But film characters are getting older because a key viewer demographicis. Diaz' face has gone through some heavy work, we see. And the botoxhas destroyed the microexpressions that made her wide smile so rich. But still you can see the age in her face and rather than distract, ithelps.
Ted's Evaluation -- 2 of 3: Has some interesting elements.
Even as someone who was getting tired of both Tom Cruise and CameronDiaz, I was looking forward to this movie. I though it looked likegreat fun and a chance for both Diaz and Cruise to make a fun comeback.Indeed I was right. Diaz and Cruise's comic and romantic chemistry isperhaps the best part of it. You just believe that they really wouldlike one another and create some exciting scenes and great laughs offof each other. In the film, Cruise plays Roy Miller, a secret agent whoone day meets June Haven (Diaz), a woman with a pretty plain life. Shethen figures out he's a secret agent. Thus our funny, action-packed,exciting adventure begins. The great supporting cast including PaulDano, Viola Davis, and Maggie Grace also doesn't hurt. Cruise and Diazhave been losing the sparks in their careers for a while, and they getthat spark right back with Knight And Day. I think this is a great stepup for not only their careers, but for a young actor like Dano who hasa very bright future ahead of him. I didn't come for plot or goodacting, but I got plot and good acting, and I had a lot of fun. I don'tknow about you, but that's a highly recommendable film to me.
User: gigamath21. I was entertained by this film 2. Cameron and Tom make a great teamin these sorts of action/thriller/comedies 3. The theater was packed tothe gills with an interactive entertained audience. 4. I will mostdefinitely add this film to my Blu Ray collection 5. I think we need asequel and it was certainly set up for a sequel. 6. The film wasextremely well edited. There wasn't a single second of dead time. 7.The plot had few holes and is essentially a modification of a plot linewe've seen time and time again..the falsely accused rogue agent upagainst the hidden corrupt government agents out to smear. Neverthelessit has some unique elements and a crisp screenplay. 8. The actionsequences are a thrill ride. 9. The plot brings us to a number ofexciting on location world wide locations that allow thecinematographer to set up some nice shots. Very little obvious CGIwhich is refreshing. 10. I was riveted and avoided completely mytendency to fall asleep at boring cookie cutter films. 11. I amperplexed over all of the Doomsday chatter about this film being afailure that marks the decline of Cruise's career. Cruise is alive andwell and at the top of his game. 12. Applause. And thank God for thefact that there are other choices than Toy Story 3. 13. I give it a 10.
User: Frankly SpeakingIt was a decent flick, but didn't like seeing Diaz in a bikini, shereally was looking old in that... :(
Tom was OK, keeping his glasses on for some of the scenes was thetrick...
honestly and frankly, i wish someone had slipped me something at thestart of the movie, to put me out for the entire thing...
Still worth a watch for the special effects and storyline, not theactor(tom)...
The guy was looking really old, sometimes its good to quit while yourahead...Diaz still smiles like a horse(teeth) and well that makeseverything alright... how long can he live off the mission impossiblebike stunt routine...we will have to wait and see...
Let's accept it: even if Knight and Day had been a good film, it wouldhave been difficult to convince Tom Cruise's haters to leave theirprejudices aside and enjoy this Hollywood film with the open mind andwanting to have fun.The problem is that Knight and Day is a patheticfilm, and Cruise's presence only worsens the horrible screenplay, notto mention James Mangold's listless direction, which undoubtedly lostthe reins from this hollow and tedious story about espionage andromance.
Despite what I said on the first paragraph, I do not hate Cruise.Ihonestly do not care about his personal life and religious preferences;I admit I liked various movies he has been involved in (my favorite oneis Magnolia, by the way), and that I appreciate his talent as an actor(not to mention the big sense of humor he showed in TropicThunder). However, he is not one of those actors who are able to"rescue" a movie with their mere presence, and Knight and Day is a veryclear example of that. The irritating story is an arbitrary parade ofaction scenes and exotic locations which are joined by the weakestnarrative thread; it seems as if Mangold and screenwriter PatrickO'Neill thought we were going to swallow any narrative deficiency onlybecause of the millionaire smiles from Cruise and CameronDiaz.Unfortunately, they were wrong, because there are not any whiteteeth or blue eyes which can compensate the disastrous screenplay orthe very poor direction.
As for the chase scenes, I found them to be laughable, because the carslook like toys, since they fly through the air and they make impossiblemaneuvers which manifest their lack of mass and inertia; I have playedvideo-games with much more realistic and attractive vehicular physics.
My expectations before watching Knight and Day were low, and I wasprepared to get myself satisfied with a disposable "summer flick", aslong as it had some ingenuity, nice characters and an at least moderatelevel of entertainment.Unfortunately, this movie could not even fulfillwith that, and the result is an authentic film disaster. So, needless tosay I suggest you to avoid Knight and Day, because I am truly sorry ofhaving wasted my time and my money on this film.
It's meant to be a light hearted, easy going film and it is. I'm not aCameron Diaz lover (acting wise) but I really liked her in this film. Igot the feeling that they had a real laugh making it - they have goodchemistry on film. I'm going watching it again with my husband and I'llbuy it on DVD when it comes out. I think the humour is brilliant and Ithink the drugging part is funny. I giggled throughout, as did a lot ofother people in the cinema. I'm glad Tom Cruise did this film, he'sfunny. I went to the cinema today wanting an easy fun film and nothingtoo serious and that's exactly what I got. Each to their own and allthat but in my opinion don't take any notice of the bad reviews, go andjudge it for yourself because it's worth it. Tip top!
