    Unthinkable is a BIG LIE

Unthinkable is a film that promotes War ,Terrorism and the act of aterrorist Psychopathic on a majority of innocents-I do not understandwhy it has not been criticized prohibits in the U.S.A,Because The filmwhich supports the victory of a murderous act killing thousands ofinnocents people by a Islamic terrorist is not worthy of being Difusein a democratic country. The film is not human, not because of itsscenes of violence and Terror, but because of the fact that it provesTHAT A CRAZY PSYCHOPATE MAY HAVE OF POWER ON A STATE,A DEMOCRATICCOUNTRY AND A CONSTITUTION-THAT IS A LIE!!!!....WHICH SUPPORTSTERRORIST ACTS.

    Nukes always about the Nukes...

I saw this film, and must say that it left me wandering about the wholepurpose of it. Was it made to make us viewers believe that torture isjustified if it can save millions of lives? Probably, but this is justone side of the coin. What about the other directions this movie wasdestined to go at, but failed because of the HUGE political pressure itreceived? None of them were mentioned here. Not even vaguely. Mr.Jackson keeps torturing the prisoner with all kinds of techniques, thinking to himself it is for protection of the lives of millions, while on the other side we see FBI agent who blindly plays the goodcop. She isn't realizing the extent of the torture this man must endurein order to give up the locations of bombs. She can't understand theneed for all this. She has no children and her character was misused toportray the people who are to liberal to do the right thing! (howpolitical indeed!)
The one thing that totally bothered me in this movie is the misuse ofchildren. Striking a person where it hurts the most is the finaloption. It left me wondering whether the director thought this conceptwould make people understand. Your children will have to die for oursto live free. How noble. Honestly this is degrading for mr. Jackson. Idon't see him as a political puppet, but after this...I changed mymind!
Totally political movie, that attempts to fool you into thinkingagencies work is justified and could not be even called in question.
Sorry to burst your bubble, I highly doubt people would like thisgroveling type of concept here.

    great movie but scary scenario

with the current times we live in, the plot is really believable. therewere a couple times in the movie where I went "holy crap did he reallyjust do that" without revealing too much this is the kind of movie thatmakes you think even after the movie ends (thats how I know I justwatched a good one) Makes me think about how our government handlescertain situations and how different bureaus clash over jurisdiction.good cast, Samuel L Jackson plays the role very well as well as therest of the cast. I just hope we never have this situation happen inreal life but the way things are going now with the world its more of aquestion when is this going to happen...

...words alone do no justice to this movie

I will try to write this without giving to much away. I just finishedwatching this movie, and my jaw is still on the floor. First andforemost, this is Samuel L. Jackson's best movie by far, even betterthan Pulp Fiction.
All I want to say without spoiling it is this: With an American bornterrorist on the loose ready to bring jihad to America, the rules arethrown out the window. During the entire movie, I was literally on theedge of my seat muttering "hold crap" among other more colorfulexpletives. As the film progressed, so did my level of adrenalin as youare drawn into this film to the point where you feel you are part of itwitnessing the insanity in person. My heart was beating a million milesa second just waiting to see what happens next.
I know this review may suck, but it is like that because I just don'twant to ruin a movie of this magnitude. You must see this movie, but beprepared to have your entire thought process, values, religion, andmoral center to be challenged not by this movie, but by yourself. Doyour self a favor and WATCH THIS MOVIE. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

    What would you do?

Michael Sheen being brilliant is hardly anything special nowadays asthe guy is a pretty amazing actor. Brian Clough, Tony Blair, Nero,Kenneth Williams just 4 exceptional roles this Brit lad has played. This time he plays a scary as hell protagonist who is scary because heis seemingly ordinary rather than a super villain. And it's theordinary that we should fear most rather than some camp guy stroking acat. The rest of the cast is pretty good too especially some of theminor role playing actors who do a pretty convincing job of lookingpetrified by what is happening. Similar to the BBC play Dirty War but abit more intense we see the race against time to establish the truth ornot of the threat made by Yussef an American convert to Islam who hasallowed himself to be captured and says he has planted 3 nuclear bombsin major cities and they are set to explode on Friday at noon. How doyou combat this kind of extreme terror and do you even believe it to bepossible. No time for a discussion over tea and cakes as millions oflives are in the balance. So what would you do? Extraordinarycircumstances require extraordinary solutions whether we like to thinkabout them or not. How civilised dare we be when the lives of so manyare at stake. Not your usual Hollywood fare and a movie well worth anhour and a half of your time that leaves a lot of thought in your headlong after it ends. Unthinkable is certainly the theme for this moviefrom beginning to end but inevitable seems a better one unfortunately. And no Peter this review is not written by someone associated with thefilm anymore than yours is mate simply my opinion of it.

Worst piece of **** I have seen in a long time

This movie is horrible. Had it not been for Jackson and Moss, none ofyou bigoted fake patriots would have given it 2 seconds of your timeeither. It's horribly written, has huge plot holes and a moral messagethat could have been delivered by a 3 year old.
The only excuse I can come up with for all the positive reviews and a(an early) score of 8.9 (WTF...), is that you people somehow think thisis a realistic setup with strong connections to 9/11. So your criticaljudgment just goes down the drain as soon as some bullshit sentimentalIslam hostile POS movie is sent out? Give me a break...
And to those who think the movie has a point in showing that no onewins and everyone loses from this religious turmoil: a lot of othermovies show this a 100 times more effectively and convincingly withoutsucking so much as this one.

America doesn't care about innocent lives

People fail to see the actual point of this movie.
Yes, terrorism is evil and one should not fight evil with evil but thismovie has a bigger picture to it.
The terrorist is risking his own life and enduring torture when he onlyasked them to remove the troops from every Muslim country and stopfunding terrorists in Islamic countries to kill innocent Muslims.
They did not accept this offer yet they killed his innocent wife andwere willing to kill two innocent children and not willing to accepthis offer. If Americans cared about their own people's lives, theywould accept his offer immediately, yet they didn't and were notwilling to.
It's all a Game. They need to only APPEAR as real "American Heros"

    Unthinkable was Unimpressive

Given the juicy premise and premium cast of characters, Unthinkable wasreally disappointing.
It ran way too long, repeating the same scenario again and again: tellus where the bombs are! Sam Jackson applies grievous, shocking torture!Kate Moss objects! Insert filler scenes, and repeat. That's the wholemovie right there. Nothing new or exciting or clever.
Also, the script was despicably cowardly. The writers tip-toed aroundthe terrorists' motivation like it was an 800 pound gorilla in theroom. No mention at all of Islamic extremism or the ideology thatdrives religious terrorists. This sucked all the air out of thedialogue between Sam Jackson and the prisoner. Face-falling flat.Seriously, throughout interrogation and torture, the prisoner nevermentions the Quran or Allah or prays even once.
The war at issue in this movie is the "war on terror". To ignore theplayers and their motivations is intellectual dishonesty and it ruinedthe film for me.

    Unthinkable? more like unwatchable---

Guy has a few nukes supposedly stashed around, all set to go off innear future. Agents capture him and lock him in a glass room and tryhumane efforts to extract information to no avail. Call in Sam Jackson, retired and listed as 'don't bother him' to government agencies, butthey do anyway cause, ya know, this situation is REALLY bad and onlySam can save us. The rest of the movie is the interrogation of thispoor schmuck, ranging from shouting loud at him to cutting off fingersegments (off camera too) with everybody telling Sam 'oh no, that's toomuch' as he starts probing the captive's parts. If you're havingtrouble sleeping this might put you over, otherwise avoid this snoozefest.

His Demandswere simple and clear that he wanted United States Follow the basicprinciples of freedom and democracy By not supporting dictatorialgovernments and withdrawing their children who die every day in a warnot their own and also kill innocent people every day
But The Representatives of the government in the movie preferred tokill his wife and tortures his children at the same time riskedexplosion of a bomb could kill millions of people Instead of correctingits policies followed in the Middle East for hundreds of years. At theend of the movie the hidden bomb about to explosion is proof that theU.S. policies cause terrorism and it will never end. they telling himnot to kill 53 people. and he saw that they are killing thousands everyday of children, women and innocent people. L. Jacksons worst since Pulp Fiction

The past couple years Samuel L Jackson has really become one of myfavorite leads. He was brilliant in Unbreakable and The Departed remakeand he's no different in this. Here he plays another underdog, something he really shines at. This is a spy/espionage/politicalthriller that runs on all cylinders; action, drama, thrills, and a fewtorture sequences here and there. American nukes are present all aroundworld and she frequently threatens other countries with her power untilothers submit to her demands. The way Gregor Jordan shows the contrastbetween Jacksons's character as the field operative and Mike Sheen asthe FBI agent is one of many great little details adding layers andfreshness to the genre. And, going back to the acting, Brandon Routhgives a break out performance as a man who is the lesser of two evilsin the Jordan hierarchy. Real top-notch effort for all involved.
Stories like this, which begin and end with depictions of a terrifyingand cruel Muslim Arab enemy, are a bonanza for Hollywood, which alwaysdepicted Arabs as cruel, stupid, and evil; see Jack Shaheen's bookchronicling this phenomenon, 'Reel Bad Arabs.' The difference now isthere ARE "feel good Arabs," only American movies have ever shown anyother kind.

    Great From Start to Finish

I'm amazed that this title has not yet been released in American movietheaters. Terrific cast (with the exception of perhaps one person), anda story line that truly kept the twists going . It's almost a mystery. And by the end, the four of us who watched asked each other - andourselves - what we might have done in the situations that werepresented.
About that one character: Joshua Harto played a green Agent Phillips, and I felt his character should have been tougher and not seeminglyunsure of his duties. It was a bit of a turn-off as Agent Brodyreviewed his work early in the picture. Phillips seemed more like adweeb than an agent. I know the director wanted to show how Agent Brodycould be so level-headed, but they didn't have to make a trained agentstutter and hesitate like Phillips did.The two main characters, Brodyand H, were portrayed quite well by Carrie Anne Moss and Sam Jackson.
As the plots and characters revealed themselves, I hoped out loud thatthe movie wouldn't crumble as the climax unraveled. I felt just alittle disappointment for a couple reasons: I wanted to know why AgentBrody and H became the way they were. I could guess, but they weretruly interesting characters that make you want to know more aboutthem. Also, I thought that a couple moments seemed a little thin,plot-wise, as the story peaked. But I couldn't just scoff at how thingshappened because I simply wasn't sure how I might have reacted if I hadto face such circumstances. My wife and friends all liked the movie. One gave it 8-1/2, one a nine, and one thought it was perfect.
I'm ever-so-slightly disappointed about another movie concerningMuslims, yet that's part of what drives the different characters andsituations as they presented themselves in the different phases of thefilm. Perhaps one could ink out a plot that didn't have to rely onterrorism, which is a current concern. Many of us have yet to thinkabout situations that presented themselves as they were portrayed inthe film. This movie gives us all a chance to think about being in themix to think of how to resolve a serious problem. No matter what youbelieve, please relax any hesitation you may have and watch just thefirst five minutes of this movie. Its start has a way of grabbing youand keeping you entertained.

    the boiling point

*spoilers* While many didn't and few did get the idea of this movie(torture limits), there is a very strong question asked from theAmericans in it.
A previous American Army man, highly trained, who fought for hiscountry, and spend years and years in the battlefield , just for thename of United States, why would he become a person , like he become? What made him to change, every living bit of his existence and stand upagainst what he thought is wrong? What in particular, did he see in theworld, that he, A LOYAL American , came to a limit of destroying hisown country and every living being in it with nothing less than thenuclear bombs? The movie is only for strong viewers who can withstandany limit of graphic content. and the idea behind the movie is how farwould you go for your people and country. that was easy pickings. butthats not my point.
I love the United States as a country and the people in it. I have beento United States and i have never found a much friendlier group ofpeople than them, i mean it. But the problem is they refuse to gobeyond a certain point of thought. they stop, where their media makesthem stop.
Just ask yourselves, why and American army soldier did all that? Whatmade him? What did he see? and above all, would any1 of you do the sameagainst your current government? Would any1 of you stand against thethe actual terrorism in the world? never!!! Do you really think theseIslamic FUNDAMENTALIST just came into existence..just like that...??Younger portrays in this movie, that their is a certain point, towhich, a human can withstand anything. Beyond that point, you becomesomething you never thought you would be. When one watches her sisterbeing rapped, and dad being killed by a group of 5 to 6 white soldiersin front of his very own eyes, that is the limit. In "UNTHINKABLE",that limit made an animal, in the "REAL WORLD", it makes a suicidebomber...
Who is to be blamed?? decide for yourself..
i give a movie 9.... worth the time

    Great, thoughtful and tense

I am not going to add too much to the other reviews that are out there.Suffice to say that the movie surprised me.
Its a very tense movie that lives up to its title. Every singlecharacter at some point chooses to do something that we would all classas unthinkable. It is the journey of each character as they get to thispoint that drives the drama and produces the discomfort.
The focus on "H" convincing the bomber what he is capable of so that hewill talk is handled masterfully. Whilst the movie doesn't really havea hero you start off believing that we need someone like "H" despitehow distasteful he may be. However as the film progresses and he takeshis work further and further as an audience you are forced to questionif he is really a hero. When we reach the point where some children arebeing threatened with torture the audience must question what is bettertorture 2 to save 10 million or let a bomb go off? For the drama towork here the bomber has to believe the kids are in mortal danger andin most movies the audience will watch knowing that the Amrican "hero"has made our "villain" believe but could never harm children - it wouldbe unthinkable. I for one know that I sat watching and believing thechildren were in absolute danger from "H".
    A def. recommend.

Mind provoking, Fast paced action thriller. 9/10

bottom line: A refreshing movie. original concept and a very enjoyablethriller.
Its not your average American hero vs. terrorist movie we'v seen abunch of in the last 5 years, its a worst case scenario testingeveryone's limits in time of crisis where morals, ethics and laws areput to the test every second of this movie. It asks the oldest questionknown to men "If you could kill a child/men to save one million livescan/would you do it ?"
the concept of terrorism in this situation is ideal and perfectlybelievable, the plot was very convincing but honestly the actingbrought a-not-so-well written script to life Samuel L. Jackson andCarrie-Anne Moss Performed admirably but the biggest surprise and oneof the best performances i'v ever seen in a while was Michael SheenPlaying the Role of Idealistic brilliant Terrorist that was able toshift audiences emotions in a heartbeat testing the moral boundaries ofman and the length people are willing to go to protect their own whichmakes you think hard when you put your self in the interrogatorsposition while watching this movie and you will when in need ofanswers.
the story line and the escalated level of events every minutes in thismovie were undoubtedly very well captured by the director he pulled athriller where your on a need to know basis and the more you find outthe more your hanging to your seat (its refreshing to see a movie wherethey don't feed you everything all at once it keep you moreinterested).
Concept and Story are very thought provoking which make it an originalfor movie fans, the acting was superb and the making was top notch.
9/10 For a well made action thriller Jack Bauer watch out there's a newrival in town.

Average at best, unrealistic and bordering war propaganda

After seeing such a high star review by previous viewers I went in towatching this movie with expectations that it would be good but wasbitterly disappointed. The cast includes some great, well known actorsbut the scripting and plot were rubbish. I would even say it borderedon propaganda by reinforcing methods of war that are just not done theyway that they are portrayed. The comparison to what happens in thismovie and what actually happens in real life is the difference betweenreality and a bad Hollywood production. The casting of the good guyswas a poor fit and I felt the urge to want to slap certain charactersoften. Given the past few reviews I can only assume that they aresomehow related to giving good publicity to this film as none of thecomments bare any resemblance to what I just watched. My tip for thismovie - watch someone else's DVD of it when there is absolutely nothingelse on to watch.

    Psychological Brilliance

The movie is fantastic, the plot, horribly scary, and the acting, superb! Samuel L is brilliant as H, a government interrogationspecialist, who must do the "unthinkable" in order to protect millionsof American lives. This movie makes you think, and leaves you thinkingafterwards. Like others have written, many scenes leave you wonderingif that actually just happened. The ending left you thinking withoutcompletely wrapping everything up in a happy little package, which forthis movie works perfectly. Michael Sheen is brilliant as Younger, andreally brings the character alive, at some stages you begin to feelsorry for him, and then he flips right back and you almost feel guiltyfor even having second thoughts. Overall a fantastic movie, that reallymakes you think, with fantastic acting to go along with it. Highlyrecommend!

    Movies are an alternate reality

I'm beginning to get sick of people comparing movies to reality. Yes,reality does inspire these movies, but then people act like reality isgoing to take movies seriously. YES, it is supporting torture andunusual punishment. YES, it is gruesome, but aren't all movies askingone question: WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF-? Don't get your garter in a knotbecause this movie supports torture. In their reality, (whichborderlines ours) they're doing what they think is right. So CALM DOWN.
*exhale* All right, now for the content of the movie: I thought allroles were played extremely well. Sam Jackson never disappoints, andMichael Sheen always excels. It was almost painful for me to watch himbe brutally tortured, but the way he said his dialogue, and relayed hischaracter made me want to be the one torturing him.
The scenes are a bit repetitive, yes, but try and find the significanceof each scene. How is this torture different from the last one? Itkeeps me entertained. I found myself wanting to scream out, "WHATTHE-?!" many times, which is a sign that this movie kept me surprisedand intently watching.
I would recommend this to anyone with a strong stomach, and no aversionto profanity. What would you do to save your country?

Could be used at Guantanamo to make prisoners talk

This felt sometimes like it was several different movies splicedtogether, but mostly it was a fun ride.
    BAD POINTS ...
TOO MANY COINCIDENCES, that doesn't happen, fake. The second half, itsnot good, feels like it has been finished in a hurry, not fine. Scenesdo not end smoothly. The end is the worst part, ABRUPT END, the moviefinishes and you feel 'there should be something more'. Its a Hollywoodgore porn movie but the end isn't, inclusion of old characters wouldhave made more funnier. I don't know why Samhail Jackson wears nerdyclothes all the time. The climax should be a bit long. The second half1/10.
    GOOD POINTS...
Michael Sheen, Wonderful, great chemistry, Michael's acting skills haveimproved a lot. The first half is perfect. The main story begins fromthe first scene, and thats what i like. Sayeed Shahidi, Boman Iranijust great. The tortures are lovely. The human pain inflicted on othersis great. The scene where torture occurs is AWESOME. The end is quitedifferent from what one may think, but its nice, some may not agreewith it, but i liked it. Greg has done a good job. The twists in themovie are hilarious. But the second half kills the fun, after about themiddle it seems that it can't find its rear-end with both hands and aspecial rear-end-map. First Half gets 2/10.
    VERDICT...
    Go to watch Syriana...

A movie that had to be made

You people seem to see more then there it is.
"Deep psychological movie" I refuse to believe no one of you asked thiskind of questions : "what if" The answer is already there. Once thebarriers of civilization start to fall, under right pressure, there isalmost no limit of what we can do, as individuals. More, culturemorality swift from generation to generation and endorses our actions.I quote, more or less, from movie : "the righteousness , the moralityis with the winner". There are no absolute values for right or wrong. But what side is right or wrong, is not important here. To be human ornot to be, that is the question... define "human" now.
Was an interesting theme to be used in a movie. Just that. I don't seeit like propaganda, or justification , on either sides. Nor the ideasare new.
I liked the movie, how it was done. I liked the actors, the ending, thetension. It was a good show. As other reviewer told , it was alsorefreshing to watch a sober movie without filler romantic subplots orcheap dialogue about personal dramas.
    Go see it.
