HAHA I Liked It More Then The Expendables

Ya i know yall want to take turns kicking me but you know what? I calla spade a spade and i wasn't bored once through this film. OK if youare a wrestling fan as i am RVD is RVD he really never gets excitedabout anything even when he won both the world titles for the WWE andthe Tna. And Dave Bautista on the other hand i sense acting skills ifthey were drawn out persay by and acting coach. Besides these guys arecooler then the other side of my pillow. When i first started to seethe teaser trailers last year for Stallone's Expendables the hair usedto rise on my arms. Then when it came to opening weekend bang we werethere and let me tell you the disappointment of 2010. No script and RVDis 10 times the actor Dolph Lundgren will ever be. Every single fan ofthe expendables i have talked to all say who needs good acting andscript they blow stuff up! OK but the same people bulk at this? Hmmmmm?Anyhow enjoy your slagging i take on all commers!

A formulaic exploitation movie that fails to live up to its potential

If you looked at the cover for WRONG SIDE OF TOWN (2010) then chancesare you're familiar with the guy holding two machine guns on the cover.Wrestling star Batista (credited here as David Bautista) is a hell ofan imposing character, but he's not actually the star. In fact he onlyappears in a handful of scenes. Fellow wrestler Rob Van Dam is actuallythe hero and the fact that the distributors had such a lack of faith inhis pulling power does not bode well. Sadly nothing that takes placeduring the brief 75 minute running time (excluding credits) doesanything to correct that initial assumption. Taking inspiration fromthe likes of COMMANDO (1985), the movie is cheap and cheerful but alsopoorly paced and reeking of desperation. It's plot, soundtrack andcasting (porn star Stormy Daniels appears only to bare her breasts) allpart of a calculated effort to appeal to undiscerning young males. There's nothing wrong with that but this lacks any invention or charm.

    Very, Very Good B Movie...

If you like Terminator, Avatar or Back to the future, don't even watchthis movie, because the production is very basic and you will be VERYupset. This movie is recommended for:
1- Wrestling Fans (RVD, Batista and Viscera are on the movie!) 2- BMovie Lovers If you liked Be kind Rewind, The wrestler or the maid, this movie is for you! you will understand it!)
The RVD acting is very good, i don't even remember him acting this wayon WWE or ECW. Batista has a kick ass character too, and is the bigbrother of Bobby (RVD Character). A very enjoyable movie, so buy somepopcorn, and six pack and BUY IT.

Worst action flick I have ever seen

Where to start? The acting was HORRIBLE. You will not believe how badit is.. You will most likely laugh your ass off on just the ridiculousWTF moments and cheesy lines..
Rob Van Dam is not a very good actor at all, his voice isn't that greatfor movies either.. The fight scenes were pretty awful too..
For the best actor of the movie, that would have to go to Batista. Tothe worst acting would have to be Seth, his two bodyguards, and theworst goes to RVD's daughter.
It could of been much better if they would of had a decent actorplaying seth and a new director. IT should of been Batista playing themain character, not RVD.. And maybe Steve Austin as his navy-sealbuddy.
If your a WWE fan, watch it.. but it might make you not like themanymore.

The greatest comedy I've seen in years!

So the WWE creates a separate production company to use it's superstarsto make low end action movies right? Well straight away you know theirend product is very unlikely to have any kind of creative impact in theArts and Entertainment world. This of course becomes very much apparentin "The Wrong Side of Town"; a film so bad it's brilliant.
Where do you start with this? Well first off Rob Van Dam is so woodenhe makes Hayden Christensen look like a thespian when he played AnakinSkywalker or Manakin Skywalker as was so beautifully put in Clerks 2.
    *spoiler alert*
It supposed to star Batista right? well what kind of Actor gets topbilling in a movie they are in for only 5 minutes? Also JaRule? He's init for less!
    *spoiler over*
What must have happened is that Rob Van Dam fell out of favour with theWWE (which is probably why he's now at TNA) during the making or postproduction and got pushed back to third billing or that Batista is amore likely name that'll sell this bucket of horse sick. Either way itwouldn't have helped this movie make any dent in the sales chart(unless it did in which case there is no God).
To be honest I could go on about how terrible this film is and aboutthe lame plot, lame acting and lame "twist" (it's not a very good one),but instead I'm just going to say that You have to watch this movie. Itis so bad it's brilliant. When I say that Steven Segal films are Oscarworthy compared to this tripe (that looks to have been edited by a guywho got drunk and head butted the keyboard) you'd think I was jokingbut trust me I'm not.
Have fun with it. I know I sure as hell did. I laughed so hardthroughout the film I woke the neighbours' baby up!

Decent enough to be a thriller, but for an action flick it's badly lacking.

Former ECW/WWE superstar (& at the time of this review, TNA superstar)RVD (ROB VAN DAMME) plays a former marine named BOBBY, who along withhis next door neighbour & family, become the targets for a disgruntled& very dangerous club owner, whose son is killed by Bobby when heattempts to rape Bobby's wife at the club their attending that evening. With a massive bounty on his head & every criminal in town set to gethim, Bobby enlists the help of his former marine buddy RONNIE (CurrentWWE superstar BATISTA) to help not only save his life & help him killthe bad guys, but also save his daughter who has been kidnapped by thevicious leader. WRONG SIDE OF TOWN is a direct to DVD action film witha low budget & surprisingly no publicity from WWE (who usually haveinterviews & run trailers for their superstars movies for......oh about20 times during their programming!) despite what the box art may haveyou believe, BATISTA is actually only in this for 10 minutes tops, while RVD who is in the back ground, is actually the main star. Batistapops in towards the end of the film & like Van Damme, engages in a fewunexciting, but no to bad fight scenes. The acting borders on good tomediocre, but the direction is lacking, with all the action scenesfilmed at all the wrong angles & while the story is engaging in thefirst half, it quickly falls apart towards the end. No exciting carchases, no shootouts, no explosions with Batista & Van Damme taking outthe bad guys in scene after scene, just basically a suspense thrillerwith a bit of action thrown in. Still it's pretty decent for what itis. Just don't expect to much out of it (or if your a fan of WWEsuperstar BATISTA, don't expect to see to much of him) but if you're anRVD fan, you might like this, because as he says on wrestling "I'm RobVan Damme & I'm the whole (f bomb) show!" & RVD can say the same thinghere, sadly Batista gets the publicity (at least in terms of the boxart).

    An interesting look and feel

I wasn't exactly disappointed with the film but it looks better on thecase then it is on film. There were a few things wrong. One of which isthe fact that when you look at the cover for the film you think thatBatista is the main focus of the film. His not rob van dam is the maincharacter but Batista is made to look more powerful which didn't workfor me. There were some shaky camera shots that could have been fixedwith the use of a steadicam or a tripod. One the upside it had a slightgraphic novel feel about it with it's lighting in the strip club sceneand the opening credits are quite graphic novel looking. Theperformances are very good I just think it could have been tightend upand made a better impression on the audience. It has an interestinglook and feel.

OK film, but its Post Production lets it down.

Going into this movie I expected the worst, but what I got out of "TheWrong Side of Town" was a surprisingly "ok" Action film, I would liketo have other words to describe it but "ok" is the best for it.
    Pros.
The script and story was good, and had me invested for its full runningtime.
Direction and some Acting was good, especially Dave Bautista, he andhis character were surprisingly funny and likable.
    Cons.
The Editing was horrendous, with wrong angles being chosen, repetitiousshots being used and just generally cutting at the wrong times. Some ofthis could be blamed on the script or direction but really it wasnothing that editing couldn't fix or handle.
Rob Van Dam's character was mediocre and although I didn't much theclich?' ex-military person character, his delivery of his dialogue andacting ability was passable.
Although editing can fix it up, the continuity in this film was quitebad otherwise thats all the cons.
I recommend this film for the bored Action lovers who don't care aboutmediocre action. I would of liked to give this film more all up but itstechnical aspects were just really bad.
1/5 for Technical 3/5 for Artistic
    For the Total of 4/10

great start for 2 well known wrestlers, but very bad script and direction

Im not great at long reviews, so hers a short one. Ill be honest Ididn't think it was going to be good, ie I thought it was going to be areally low budget start off film . Sadly I was correct in my view, Theplot is half cooked and what felt like it had large chunks missing orsimply wasn't put together smoothly. It was rather clich?d pretty muchthe whole way through, with many continuity errors from the obviousfact that the knives were fakes just by the look of them and then tosee that each time somebody got sliced it was a miracle since no bloodended up on any of the weapons used. You had van dam holding a gunwhich seemed out of place because his head was tilter as if he waslooking through the aim point at the end of the gun, yet his head wasno where near it, yet with a back shot of rvd it was obvious it was astand in due to the body and then because the gun was in the correctposition of the body, then you came back to the front view and samebotch job. the music in many sections were completely out of place andfelt as if it was a rough job with smoothing into the action scenes. How ever saying all these bad points, I can safely say that for theirfirst film that I know of rvd and bautista , they did a sterling job,you can see that they still need to learn there craft and adjust withhow they body language is, but overall it was a nice pleasantexperience watching these two act. Would this have done anything on thebig screen? if it was just wrestling fans going to see it, it would Iguess do a 1/4 decent job, but thats it, film buffs would have ripedthe directorial attempt to pieces as well as the script. but as astraight to DVD, you would only be happy about it if you paid say ?5and then found how bad David DeFalco had directed this film they wouldstill feel ripped off, but eased the pain knowing they saw some prettydecent acting by the 2. I also gave this 3/10 simply because i believebautista and rvd is a fairly good job

    Too predictable & simple...

Yeah, what more can I say. This movie was stupid. The story was sooonot interesting that bore almost killed me. I could predict everysingle move they made and that's not what I want from a movie. When Isaw that Dave Batista & Rob van Dam are actors in this movie I couldalready say what's going to happen. Making films like this makes nosense at all to me, as the movie wasn't good action either. We even sawsomething like a wrestling match during one of the fights. This movieis crap. Not worth watching, not worth paying for it either. I mean, the story is simple, there are like no real effects, the actors arejust few wrestlers, and it is just some stupid boring action, who thehell would ever want to watch that, huh???

Not as bad as I expected

The plot is predictable and the acting is grade school but honestlywhat do you expect from a straight to DVD staring RVD? RVD's acting isnot nearly as bad as I thought it would be and Batista's character isfreakin awesome. "Who wants to die first?" Whoever the actress is thatplays RVD's daughter is the worst by far. The main bad guy seriouslylooks like he is being played by Howie Mandel's brother. Also the cameoby King Mable is pretty funny. One thing that I did like about thismovie is that is stays fairly realistic. There's no over the top actionscenes or backflip kicks (Karate Kid). This movie is what is it; a lowbudget action flick but at least its watchable. I hope you weren'texpecting Scarface.

    Don't worth it

This is one of those crap movies with poor actors. Rob Van Dam doesn'thave a clue about interpreting, or what so ever! They managed to makeevery single fight into a "please guys, don't make me hurt you" scene. You already know exactly what is about to happen, since the firstscene. Don't bother spending one and a half hour watching this! I willregret it forever! Bobby (Rob Van Dam) gets really hurt since thebeginning and he is always OK during the fights. When they are tryingto hide in the car park with the mercedez, Clay (Edrick Browne) parkedthe car with the lights on!!!! Then the bikes pass, the car is shownwith the lights on, and in the next scene the car has the lights off!Completely bad produced and directed!

    bad, but entertaining

This movie appeals mainly to macho meat head types, but is actuallyquite funny and entertaining in a B-movie way. If you're a B-move fanlike me, you'll probably like it. Otherwise you probably won't. Thedialog reminded me of an 80's or early 90's cheesy action movie. Itfelt like watching something along the lines of kick boxer 2. It's toobad Ja Rule wasn't in the movie longer, because he's actually a prettytalented actor. The fight scenes could have been better, but some ofthe stunts and the showdown on the bridge were pretty good. They throwsome random jokes in here and there which are actually pretty funny andremind the viewer not to take the movie all that seriously. RVD'sacting wasn't that great, but it was tolerable. Batista's acting wasconvincing, and i liked RVD's foxy daughter. overall, the movie ispredictable and simple, but entertaining in it's own special way -plenty of cursing, fighting, cheesy action, girls, and boobs. Watch itwith a group of friends, some munchies, and a case of beer.

When are wrestlers gonna stop pretending that they can actually act

First off I'm gonna start with saying if you have any decent taste inmovies this is not the movie for you. Lackluster screenplay enormouslyoverused plot line(A former military man turned family man {Rob VanDamm} accidentally kills bad guys brother,or his son as you find out,and ends up fighting a bunch of brainless thugs who are offered 100grand to bring him to said bad guy, daughter gets kidnapped....) youknow where this is going. Anyways, not one "actor" in this horrificflick can actual act. You can really tell which wrestlers can actuallyact because the Don't wrestle anymore (i.e. Dwayne Johnson and SteveAustin) So please in the future save yourself the embarrassment and ourtime and the money of these production companies and step aside and letthe REAL actors do their job and do the REAL entertainment.

Cheap action film that handles about revenge of a drug dealer for his son's death.

This is the cheesiest action film ever made. The actors are the veryworst, and the whole story is too predictable. The music is way toohard rock too, the film director got stuck in the 1980's. The wholething is a joke, the fighting is so fake. The same thing applies to allthe emotions, the characters get angry and the wrong time, shout at thewrong time... Normally I like predictable Hollywood films, but thiscrosses the line... by about a mile. The 'hero' is supposed to be thisold navy seal, but all he looks like is a old truck driver. You'll getbored before the action is supposed to even begin. Definitely not akeeper, not even worth watching. They'd have to pay me to look at itagain. It's just ridiculously bad.

At least I got a good laugh out of it

Lionsgate is known for many things: Releasing controversial movies("Irreversible", "O", "American Psycho"), prestige pictures that getaward attention ("Precious", "Crash", "Away From Her") and of courseHorror movies (too many to count-though that genre has unfortunatelytaken something of a back seat as far as theatrical releases areconcerned.) But the one thing people tend to forget to associateLionsgate with is Straight to DVD movies. For who knows how long,Lionsgate has been giving the world the best (well, usually worst ormost mediocre) in straight to DVD Horror, Action and generalExploitation. David (the absolutely abysmal "Last House on the Left"rip off "Chaos") Defalco now gets into this market with "Wrong Side ofTown", a really bad but at least laughable blend of Wrestlesploitation(B-Movie with a Professional Wrestler(s)) and Rapsploitation (B-Moviewith a Rapper(s).)
Bobby Kalinowsky (Rob Van Dam) is living a peaceful life with his wifeand daughter, when they are invited to a night club run by a corruptcrime lord named Seth (Jerry Katz.) When his wife is nearly raped bySeth's coked up younger brother, Bobby comes in to save to day-andinadvertently kills the guy. None to pleased by this turn of events,Seth puts a bounty on Bobby's head, and hires local gangs (whichinclude R&B singer Omarian, rapper Ja Rule and wrestler Viscera) tohunt him down. Thing is, Bobby is an ex-navy seal, and knows how tofight back. He knows he can't go at it alone though, so he turns to hisold buddy Big Ronnie (Dave Bautista) for help.
First thing's first: "Wrong Side of Town" is not anywhere near as badas DeFalco's prior movie "Chaos", as it's nowhere near as downbeat orugly as that film. It's still an inept exercise though, with atrociousacting (more on that in the next paragraph), poorly choreographedaction scenes, poor direction, heavily advertised actors not gettingparticularly huge roles (Ja Rule is barely in it, and probablywondering what the hell happened to his career in that he has ended uphaving a small role in a terrible Straight to DVD movie from thedirector of "Chaos", and Bautista, despite getting top billing, isbarely in the thing), bad editing, and so much more. Sure, you canthrow in all the nudity (including a cameo from porn star StormyDaniels) and action you can, but that doesn't make the movie good.
And back to the acting. Oh boy, it is atrocious. Nobody in this moviecan act worth a damn-especially star Rob Van Dam, who acts stiff andboring to the point that you wonder if he's an inanimate object and nota living being. In fact, the terrible acting ends up becoming the solesaving grace of this movie, as it becomes hilarious. My stomachactually hurt from laughing so hard, especially when we first meet thecharacter of Big Ronnie. It's almost worth cherishing in that respect.
Apart from it's casting, there is no real distinguishing "Wrong Side ofTown" from any other bad Straight to DVD action movie from Lionsgate.Everything from the low rent "James Bond" inspired opening credits toeverything else on display is low rent to the point of inanity. Thatout of the way, if sh!%%y Straight to DVD action movies are your thing, and if you want a good laugh out of cinematic ineptitude, then by allmeans watch this.

    "Bad" doesn't even describe it..

..and I'm talking about the Film technical side! how is it evenpossible that an elevator show up in a movie (which has some awfuleditorial work!) which has nothing to do with the scene or even thesituation within the scene?! i just don't get it. i really am upset!
the technical side of this movie is pure horrible. I'm glad i don't ownit. but i thought the world should know this: the acting is one thing, but if the editing is bad - and i mean really 'bad' - how worse can itbe?
watch it yourself with an eye on the little details.. sometimes itseems the actors weren't told what to do.
I rated it 2 out of 10 because the acting overall didn't blow as muchas the technical incompetence that leads through this movie.

    A Great Comedy!

First off, I'm extremely embarrassed to say I actually took the time towatch this movie. That being said, I'm still sad that this hour and ahalf of my life was toilet bowled, but I did get to laugh out loudquite a few times. Unfortunately those were supposed to be very seriousmoments.
Where to begin with this debacle I do not know. As I was watching thisabsolutely ridiculous and clich? drenched mess I kept saying to myself"surely a teenager made this movie!" There's no other possible answerfor this horrific story, acting, everything, you name it!
If I am able to save at least one poor soul out there the agony I'veendured then I feel I've done my job here trying to help out mankind atleast a bit. So please, please for the love of God stay as far ashumanly possible away from not only this wrong side of town, but thesame city, state and continent if at all possible. It doesn't matter ifit's free on cable, pirated, you're drunk, stoned, or all of the above,it's not worth it!!!
If you absolutely must, then make sure someone pays you handsomelyfirst.
Bottom line, if you're in the mood for a decent action flick, seeanything else, even if you've already seen it 100 times!
