To begin with, this is a TV movie, therefore you should not have a highexpectation about it. However, given that fact, I have seen a lowbudget action movie which is way better than this one. The actions werevery bad; there were some sword fight, but when you look at them, it isexactly the actions that were comparable to a play, not a movie. Therewere a lot of awkward moment where you can actually see that the actorswere waiting for the hit to come slowly..... and then try to deflectthem. And of course the details were terrible. The minaret for whateverreason was topped with a cross ? Normally; in this kind of movies, books are made of animal skins, but on this one, it is cheaper to usepaper...
All in all, my suggestion is not to waste your time on this one. I'vegiven a 2 vote for the effort of the actors, despite a very baddirection they still do reasonably well....
I wasn't hoping for much but I got even less than that! This 'movie'was not only bad - devoid of any real plot, wit, or meaningful context;lousy special effects; terrible acting; and laughable direction - itwas also a throwback to the most simplistic and misogynist view ofmagic and witches I have seen in ages. At first I thought they weredepicting those views in order to turn them on their head but no- thatreally was the lens of this movie on the world of magic and femalepower versus civilization. Even the campy stuff wasn't fun because itseemed not to have any sense of humour about itself and how reallyreally bad it was. If you like to watch things that are really reallybad in order to laugh at how bad they are, you might find this a treatof some sort. It really is that bad. Did i mention it is bad?

"Prince Malachy returns home from the Crusades and finds the kingdomhaunted by a dark force after his father's death."
The one talent of this director is he/she was able to make a low budgetmovie look like it had money behind it. It sports some decentchoreographed sword fights, and good looking if repetitive specialeffects.
What this movie lacks, is any sort of story or characterization. Thecharacters have hard to pronounce names and do nothing to drive theaction along. Several seem to drop out of the movie with noexplanation.
Myanna Buring is the one person who stands out in this mess.Unfortunately, like Kristanna Loken in T3, she was given almost nothingto work with.
SPOILER The fact that she sets the hero free to defeat the Red Queenmakes her the one important character in the movie, WHY she does it isa mystery.
Yes I watched the movie, King Malachy is the Evil Queens son and Jozefais his half sister. Jozefa finds this out, and it's enough for her toturn on her own mother and everything she has known in life up tillthis point? END SPOILER
In short, this movie is boring and soulless, and really not worthwatching unless you desperately need to waste 90 minutes of your life.
I shouldn't rate this yet, haven't finished watching it, however, theKramer character IS cracking me up. Does anyone else think he speakslike an English accented Captain Kirk, William Shatner 60's style?
The pacing and inflection is so funny. I wonder if he realized he wasdoing that?
hahah
"They............are...........among us.........even now. Pause "Onemeal..........for one man.............will not.........." and on andon.
I am an avid Sci Fi movie fan...books too....I just wish they had somebetter writers for the movies ON the Syfy channel. Sheesh. Don't wasteyour actors.....Luke Goss, Ed Speleers, James Frain (another movie) andmore.
I'll watch anything with Luke Goss in it. He is just dang gorgeous.
So far, about a four on the ratings.
If you like that sort of thing. The production qualities are quitegood. The acting is quite good. The music is quite good. The plot isidentical to dozens of others. A fantasy medieval kingdom is threatenedby takeover by an evil power. Brave heroes and heroines must fight andsuffer and die to place the rightful good king back on the throne.
This movie offers more in the way of shirtless tied up guys, women withswords, cross-bows, etc.
If you like this sort of thing, this is a good version of it.
In my opinion on par, and certainly better in terms of acting, than"The Sword and the Sorcerer" or "Kull the Conqueror." The mood israther consistently dark throughout, which I liked. Not the joke-y-nessof many similar movies.
SyFy movies are a dime a dozen on Saturday nights and this one has adecent and original story line. There are no big blockbuster effectsand no deep philosophical plot twists or ideologies. It's simply asword and sorcery fantasy movie with tidbits of action here and there.Taking it for what it is keeps it in perspective. Those individuals whowill think its "apallingly bad" are individuals who can't look past thelow budget presentation of the film, although this one isn't that lowbudget in presentation. The acting is decent for a SyFy movie, theeffects are decent, fight scenes decent and setting decent. Again it'snot your top of the line straight to the box office film....take it forwhat it is and stop trying to be the newest critic on the block. Wehave enough of those.
This review is mostly written to counter one of the complaints given inanother review. The following may contain spoilers: The story showedJozefa's (MyAnna Buring) conflict with her mother, the Red Queen fromthe Red Queen's initial introduction. So the fact she found out theKing is her brother along with the fact that she's taken a liking tothe King's best friend is the catalyst for her betrayal. Not to mentionthe King's best friend talking her down.
This movie was a rather large improvement from Syfy's usual Saturdaynight original flicks. The visual effects were some of the best I haveseen in one of these low budget movies. I especially liked theatmosphere and lighting that was portrayed throughout the film. It gavea little bonus to the enjoyment. The acting was very good, not justfrom the main cast, but from the whole cast. There were a couple ofscenes with some interesting music that fitted the scenes very well. The ending was nothing special, but it wasn't lazy either. Overall thefilm was well worth the watch and won't disappoint. I enjoyed the moviea lot and plan to watch it again the next time it airs on Syfy channel.Look for the T.V. guide, people!
User: elliott78212Now let me explain I'm giving this a 6 because when it comes to SyFyChannel movies they usually get a 2-4 yet this one had a bit ofsomething different. While the actor I expected to deliver a goodperformance was only OK (Luke Goss who was so great in Hellboy II)acting by everyone was good, well not counting Sarah Douglas who waswell just campy. Now as for the Movie some interesting action scenes &special F/X kept the movie going though dialogue bogged this movie waydown. Not many movies are made of Swords & Sorcery so I had my pop andsnacks ready watched the whole thing and found it a nice change ofpace. Filmed in China some scenes are beautiful. Lots of visual F/Xthat play well even if they had budget constraints the director workedwith what he had making the most of it. I never heard of him before butapparently he has a cult following with a film called Gene Generation. In an interview I googled he discussed putting himself well into theproject determined to make a quality film to that end he didconsidering his budget and a poor script. A stand out was Eragon's EdSpeelers who has grown up a bit and was really kinda funny in themovie. The movie is a mixed bag (well what syfy movie isn't) at timesslow, with odd fight scenes at times fun to watch and enjoyable overallif you can record it and skip the commercials you may like itmore...until next week when Syfy will no doubt bless us with yetanother Saturday Original flick Nuff Said
