    Uses Anti-Gay Slurs

Tracy Morgan uses an anti-gay slur "fag" to get a laugh. It's notfunny. How would he like it if I said, "I'm not gonna shoot you,n-word." Did Tracy Morgan utter this line with joy in his heart? Iwonder what would allow an actor to be caught on film saying such ananti-gay slur and think it's okay by then subsequently stating themovie it's from.
And Warner Brothers apparently thought this was a good idea to air thisportion of the movie in their television advertisements. And exactlyWHAT was going on in THEIR heads? Yeah. BOYCOTT this movie please.

A comedy full of laughs and action

To tell the truth, I wasn't looking forward to this film at all. I'm apretty big fan of most of Kevin Smith's work, but he didn't write thefilm. It could be argued that he did write Jersey Girl and that couldbe considered a bomb, but his films usually average about $25-$30million anyway. A Kevin Smith film isn't really about bringing in alarge amount of money at the box office. His charm is in his writing, especially the dialogue and interaction between characters. There's avery specific audience his films will appeal to and none of them havereally branched away from that. But him not writing this one made methink, "Eh. Not sure what that'll be like since he didn't write it."When it comes to Bruce Willis, I've never talked to anyone who dislikeshim entirely. There always seems to be at least one of his filmseverybody enjoys. Die Hard, The Fifth Element, and Sin City are just afew off the top of my head. The real buzz-killer for me though wasTracy Morgan. He's just never been funny to me. He was beyond lame onSaturday Night Live and 30 Rock has never been able to hold myattention for very long. Not to mention all the trailers for Cop Outdidn't make me laugh. Thankfully though, first impressions can be sovery wrong.
One of Cop Out's biggest charms is that it feels like a buddy copcomedy you've seen before, but have forgotten how much you enjoy it.The film feels similar to a 48 Hrs or Beverly Hills Cop film.Bulletproof is also a good example. Cop Out is pretty much what youexpect when it comes to roles Bruce Willis chooses as it's pretty muchno different than his role as John McClane on the surface, but he's alot funnier this time around. As far as Tracy Morgan goes, the funniestthing I could remember him saying was his one line in Jay and SilentBob Strike Back ("Man... I don't know what the f--- you just said,Little Kid, but you're special man, you reached out, and you touched abrother's heart.") until this film. He was downright hilarious attimes. The only person who was funnier than Morgan was Seann WilliamScott who stole every scene he was in. Even though Kevin Smith didn'tpen the script this time around, it still feels like a Kevin Smithfilm. It could be due to the fact that Jason Lee has a small role inthe film, but I like to think it's because Cop Out offers the same kindof comedy you'd find in a Kevin Smith film with a bit more action. Italso took me forever to place Scarface from Half Baked as Poh Boy.
Cop Out is surprisingly funny and incredibly entertaining. Give thisfilm a chance even if the trailers may not be doing anything for you. Ifelt the same way and wound up thoroughly enjoying the film. After along, stressful day at work, an R-rated comedy with a lot of laughs isone of the best ways to relax and this film offers just that. It's agreat film to go into with no expectations other than to just have agood time. As long as you don't run out of the theater, you shouldcatch the part in the credits. This might just be the funniest filmreleased in 2010 thus far. Be sure to check it out. Highly recommended.

S.W.S is the S.O.S of "Cop Out" Land!

Famed comedic Director Kevin Smith was recently booted out a SouthwestAirlines' flight because he was too fat. He directed a film on thatexperience and called it "Get Out". Then he set his sights on directinga sequel based on his retort to the Southwest booting and called it"C*ck Out". OK, these movies never happened based on Smith's planeremoval. What really happened is that Smith has directed a raunchycop-buddy movie called "Cop Out". Smith has been a master of thecomedic bawdy genre with such gems as: "Clerks", "Chasing Amy", and"Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back". Smith also directed some plane(sorry Kev) I mean plain comedic films as "Dogma", "Jersey Girl", and"Zach and Miri Make A Porno". "Cop Out" falls in the plaindepartamento. "Cop Out" stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as JimmyMonroe & Paul Hodges, a white & black cop duo who have been partnersfor a long time and run into some zany situations during their tour ofduty behind the silver badge. Sounds familiar? It's called "LethalWeapon" or "Beverly Hills Cop". However, I do have to cop out Smith andmention that he does actually pays homage to those films in numerous"Cop Out" scenes. Jimmy & Paul have been suspended for 30 days by theNYPD Police Chief for messing up a job that let the "bad guy get away"(for lack of a better cop movie clich?). However, Jimmy must find thefunds for his daughter's wedding and Paul must find another reason tostill hang out with Jimmy. In trying to recapture a stolen vintagebaseball card that belonged to Jimmy, the boys get caught up in aMexican Gang muddled situation. But Jimmy & Paul are more concerned ontheir personal dilemmas than being a moving target for the MexicanGang; Jimmy needs the baseball card to hit a financial home run and payfor his daughter's wedding while Paul is over his head on suspicionthat his wife is getting behind the gun of a pesky neighbor (yes, cheating on him!). Smith did include some semi-comical moments to themovie, but most of the attempted comedy was mainly misfires from Willisand Morgan's typecast characters; and it did not help Smith much thathe had to work with a cop-buddy mechanical script from Rob & MarkCullen. I think the talented scriber Smith would have comedicallyenhanced the "Cop Out" script if it would have had his screenplayfingerprints. The right-on-target supporting performance of the filmwas by Seann William Scott playing Dave, an acrobatic thief whoseannoying attributes are of scene-stealing comedic euphoria; too badSmith did not have him as an arresting development throughout most ofthe film. It is Scott's uproarious work as Super Dave the only reasonthat "Cop Out" is dismissed from the charge of C.M.I. (comedic movieinadequacy). *** Average

Cop Out: says it all, trust me, it IS a cop out

The movie "Cop Out" was a great hint and I missed it. The movie wasindeed a "Cop Out"! In no way, shape or form should this movie havebeen released in the condition it was. It was nothing more than thekind of crap you would get from "The Worst Of Saturday Night Live".Kevin Smith directed this??? Who did he lose a bet with? The trailergave me the impression that the teaming up of Willis, Cullen and Morganwould be brilliant. I can't believe how wrong I was. Willis being thestraight man never worked for me. Morgan was nothing more than what yougot from him on SNL. Cullen was by far the best part of the movie buthe was in it for such a short time, savoring his sharp wit was only alost hope. He really would have been the one to make the trio ofWillis, Morgan and Cullen a great edgy, comic team.
As it goes, this movie was totally predictable, stupid, without appealor attachment and definitely a total waste of time and money for moviefans. Maybe thats why this movie was released as it was - creativepowers saw an opportunity to make a buck without regard to the fans.Maybe? The only reasons I give this movie a 1 is because of theappearances of Sean Cullen and the cute Michelle Trachtenberg. Yep, 1of 10 is a stretch but the movie deserves some gratitude.
    AVOID THIS MOVIE!!

Original and entertaining -- all-star cast keeps you guessing!

Cop Out is more than yet another cop buddy film. They manage to walkthe line so that the film is goofy enough to be funny but not so goofythat you don't care what the characters do or what the outcome is. Tome it seemed very much like Beverly Hills Cop, perhaps because themusic was done by "The Heat is On" composer Harold Faltermeyer.
Comedic duos sometimes work and sometimes they don't. Jackie Chan andChris Tucker in the "Rush Hour" series often stepped on each other'stoes, for example. I'm pleased to say that Bruce Willis and TracyMorgan have amazing chemistry together. Bruce has the humility to playthe straight man while Tracy rants, and occasionally they switch roles. It's beautiful and I laughed out loud several times.
But wait, there's more! They also add in Seann William Scott, the guyfrom the American Pie series, in a role that should have been biggerbut added just the right touch of madness.
Best of all, the film is far from formulaic. I've got pretty goodspidey sense but I had no idea what was going to happen next.
So Cop Out was surprisingly original and entertaining. That being sad,the plot with the daughter's wedding didn't really interest me, thebadguys were sort of generic and the film fell short of being aclassic, although you should definitely hang around during the creditsto see the classic moment there.
So I'll give Cop Out a solid but not for-the-ages 8 out of 10.

If your going to see one movie this year....

For Heaven's sake don't make it this one. Yesterday I had to spend twohours in the dentist chair getting a crown fixed. I found that a moreentertaining and pleasant experience then watching this wretch of afilm. What was Bruce Willis thinking? Is he that desperate for work andmoney! Tracy Morgan has got to be one of the least funny people I haveever seen in a movie. This man is supposed to be funny? I didn't laughonce but I cringed a lot watching his antics. This movie has nooriginality in it at all. Its like the writers tore up scripts fromLethal Weapon and other cop buddy films threw the torn pieces in theair and taped them together again as they came down! You know a movieis in big trouble when the main plot point is recovering a stolenbaseball card! This movie has every clich? in the book. The script wasso bad I wanted to cover my ears just hearing the actors recite theirlines. Avoid this movie like the plague.

    Simply . . . vile

Look, guys, it's not a "hom-ij" (yeah, I know you know how to pronounceit correctly) if you steal the lines, but not the emotional content, ofthe "buddy cop" movies you rip off. This is an extremely offensive, unfunny (in fact, anti-funny), unnecessarily violent lift from a breedof 80's movies that are better left to cable reruns. Bruce Willis isclearly going through the motions, and Tracy Morgan is totally out ofhis element (whatever that is) playing someone with a responsible joband a stable relationship, since he's a cartoon character. And justwhen I thought that Seann William Scott couldn't expand his annoyingjerk persona, he does. Truly terrible, derivative, lacking in anyredeeming value, utter dreck- and yet, it'll likely be a hit, and spawneven more awful sequels.

These Cops are Out for NUTTINESS & Distress

Director Kevin Smith ("Clerks", "Zack & Miri Make A Porno", etc.)decided to "branch out" and for once direct a film he himself did NOTwrite, namely, this. But he did keep his ability to construct a filmplayed with a bunch of good LAUGHS: … Bruce Willis plays Jimmy Monroe ,a veteran cop (--now, there's an "unusual" role for him!…) His partneris Paul Hodges (Tracy Morgan), who loves reciting dialogue from famousFILMS when interrogating suspects-- to the amusement of Bruce who findshim horribly "hammy"…
… Bruce's daughter Ava (Michelle Trachtenberg) is about to get marriedin 6 weeks, & she & her mother Pam (his divorced wife, played byFrancie Swift) want a big, expensive wedding costing nearly $ 50,000.Bruce is deeply displeased when the new "step-dad" Roy (Jason Lee)offers to pay for it instead, & vows to find a way to cover the cost onhis own…
… Covering it means Bruce has to sell a rare BASEBALL CARD of AndyPafko (who played for the Chicago Cubs, tho that's not the card inquestion)… As he tries to do that, a smart-alec crook named Dave (SeannWilliam Scott) chances to ROB him & the store he's at-- whichnecessitates Bruce & "oblivious" Tracy trying to find him to recoverthe card… When they do find him, he drives Tracy crazy with hisnonsense patter…
… In order to try to catch a gang of violent Mexican criminals in NewYork, Tracy dons a costume as a Cell Phone as if he's working at acommunications store. But, when the store is shot up, he & Bruce getsuspended from the force, to the delight of their jealous fellow copsHunsaker (Kevin Pollak) & his partner Barry Mangold (Adam Brody)...
… Bit by bit, Bruce & Tracy (who's doubting the fidelity of his wife)track down Bruce's card to being in the possession of Poh Boy(Guillermo Diaz), the leader of the gang of Mexican criminals who alsohappens to be a big collector of sports-related memorabilia… In returnfor the card, Guillermo wants Bruce to find a car he's had stolen fromhis control…
… Naturally, Sean, Kevin & Adam get "caught-up" in the variousmachinations of the main characters… Will Bruce FIND the car (& the"secret" item INSIDE of it that Guillermo really wants)?… Will Bruceget his CARD back?… Will Tracy find out if his wife (Rashida Jones) hasbeen FAITHFUL to him?… What will happen to Sean, Kevin & Adam?…
… There were loads of "full" LAUGHS, both to the situations & thenuttiness of Tracy + in appreciation for how well he partnered withBruce… Yes, a bunch of it is "CHEESY" and / or "SILLY" humor, but it'sreally effective, enjoyable, & the movie (with a bundle of action to goalong with the amusement) is a lot of FUN… A SUCCESSFUL"buddy"-action-comedy…

    Title Says It All

Bruce Willis on his downward spiral. Totally predictable, by thenumbers cop-buddy movie. When his rare baseball card gets stolen,Willis and Tracey plan to find the miscreants. After all, Willis isgoing to use the money to pay for his daughter's wedding. Bald headedBruce sleepwalks through another movie, arguably his worst since"Surrogate"-remember that? Tracey Morgan shows some talent and a goodsense of humor, but it is totally squandered in this film. This one issupposed to echo the cop-buddy films of the 80s, movies like "48hrs."and "Beverley Hills Cop".while those movies were fun and inventive fortheir time, they seem badly dated today. Same with this.It is soutterly predictable that you can watch it without the sound and knowwhat exactly is going to happen next. Its really a shame. I kinda likeWillis, but if he continues to do roles like this, he may soon findhimself doing commercials for wine coolers again real soon. At leastthe movie lives up to its title -it cops out in every department, especially laughs. If you can wait 7 weeks, you'll be able to rent it atyour local video store. Not really worth your time or your money.Alaughless "comedy" that is more pathetic than funny. The joke is on youif you pay money to see it!

Cop Out (A.K.A. "All the other good movie titles were taken so we got stuck with this one")

Painful to watch. Absurd story line. Dull action. Slow moving trainwreck. Those are the words I am using to describe Bruce Willis' andTracy Morgan's new movie "Cop Out." Five being the number of times Ilaughed in the almost two-hour long tragedy. Although, I think it wasintended to be a comedy.
The story begins with Jimmy (Willis) and Paul (Morgan) interrogating asuspect in a drug case. It also happens to be their nine-yearanniversary of being partners on the NYPD. Laugh No. 1: theinterrogation scenes were partially funny because Paul, whilephysically and verbally abusing his suspect, was quoting cop movies hehad seen. The scene does take a clever jab at a Willis movie.
The film quickly moves into the typical 1980s buddy cop movie. I thinkthat the writers simply Netflixed the entire buddy cop genre oneweekend and wrote notes on what they thought was funny. Robb and MarkCullen wrote the screenplay and Kevin Smith of "Clerks" fame directed.
Jimmy and Paul go on an assignment and make a few mistakes that resultsin losing their badges for 30 days. Who takes their badges away? It isthe stereotypical angry police captain that has had enough of theirantics. Sorry, seen it before, guys.
Jimmy soon finds himself in a situation where he needs $48,000 and iswithout a job. Oh no, how will Jimmy ever find a way get the money? Itturns out that Jimmy has a very valuable baseball card and when he goesto sell the card, it's stolen by Dave (Seann William Scott). The cardends up in the hands of a ruthless Mexican gang leader who housesbaseball memorabilia worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in a$25,000 home in the ghetto.
During this train wreck, I couldn't find a time where I really caredabout any of the characters; Willis seemed to be phoning most of hislines into the movie. Morgan was being, well, Tracy Morgan. That wasactually a good thing. He plays the sensitive dumb wit so well thatit's fun to watch him on "30 Rock." But, when I can watch him be a goofball for free on Thursday nights, why would I pay $10 on Friday towatch him to play the same character? The rest of the story is aboutJimmy trying to get his baseball card back from the Mexican gang who isusing Jimmy and Paul to retrieve a stolen Mercedes. Dave comes backinto the story with laugh No. 2 where they have a juvenile joke festwhile figuring out if Paul's wife is cheating on him. Laugh No. 3 comessoon after that with a little physical pain to an 11-year-old boy (Idon't advocate violence upon children, but I will laugh at it when itis done right). The story moves slowly into finding an angry Mexicanwoman. I assume the casting agent hired her because she is pretty andshe could scream/ curse in Spanish for the remaining 45 minutes of thefilm.
Laugh No. 4 and the last one (Sorry, there was no laugh No. 5. I wasgiving the movie a handicap out of pity), was when the credits wererolling. It takes place in a morgue and as far as morbid pranks areconcerned it was funny. Again the joke was by Scott, which makes me ask- why didn't he get his name on the movie poster? He did most of thework.
There you have it, a 1980s cop comedy that would have been funny 25years ago. Maybe it was paying homage to the cop comedies we grew up onbut then again maybe this is simply a lost cause. Pay attention to themusical score and you'll hear the 1980s Casio Synthesizer used inmovies like "Fletch" and "Beverly Hills Cop." It brought me back to asimpler time when these jokes were fresh and new.
Should you see this movie? Please don't. Save your $10, watch "30 Rock"and rent "Die Hard" and you'll see Willis and Morgan in their bestelements.

    Well Named Movie

"Cop Out" disappoints throughout. "Cop Out" goes back on its word toentertain us. The filming style is painfully horrible to watch, most ofthe material seen on YouTube is easier to watch than this movie. Iguess the hand-held, jerky filming style is the current thing... yuck!
Bruce Willis is... Bruce Willis, no difference from countless other BWfilms, I used to think he could act, I was wrong. Tracy Morgan, whileenjoyable on 30 Rock and SNL, is torturous to watch in this film, alittle of Morgan goes a long ways. I can't think of a more irritatingscene in any movie I've ever seen than the one between Morgan and SeannWilliam Scott in the police car after Scott's arrest. Two words come tomind, excruciating and grating.
Only see this movie if you crave gratuitous violence and foul language. It is a total waste of time. Where can I get my refund?

Kevin Smith Falls Asleep In The Director's Chair

Kevin Smith is a talented writer, but a less than stellar director. He's the first to admit it. So, it was a surprise when he signed on tohelm an action-comedy starring Bruce Willis. What isn't a surprise isthat he copped out. There's only three action scenes. One in thebeginning with Willis and Tracy Morgan chasing a drug dealer. Anotherin the middle with the drug dealer chasing them. And a big shootout atthe end. Smith needs to man up. First he turns down the Green Hornet, then he chickened out on a horror film titled Red State, and now this.Smith said that Cop Out was a tribute to '80s buddy cop movies. He evenhired Harold Faltermeyer (Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Fletch, Tango &Cash) to do the score. Instead he delivered something in the samecategory as Police Academy.
Willis stars as Jimmy and Morgan as Paul. They are cops in thenarcotics unit who get suspended with no pay for 30 days as a result ofa major screw-up. Jimmy doesn't mind the suspension, but hates notgetting a paycheck since he needs the money to pay for his daughter'swedding. Out of desperation he decides to sell a baseball card that'sworth $80,000. His daughter's wedding costs $48,000. Did she reallyexpect him to pay that bill on a cop's salary? No. She's counting onher rich step-father, played by 39-year-old actor Jason Lee, but Jimmyhas too much pride. While in the process of selling his card he isrobbed by Seann William Scott. You're still with me? Okay. So,afterwards, Jimmy goes looking for Scott's character and when he findshim he demands to know what happened to his baseball card. He isinformed that it was sold to a drug dealer. The same drug dealer whogot him suspended. What a coincidence.
Dumb plot and lack of action aside, it is a funny flick. It's nothilarious, but it is funny. Morgan has his moments, but the realhighlight is Scott. Then again, Scott has been a scene stealer sinceAmerican Pie. You can never go wrong with Stifler. So, is it worth theprice of admission? Nope. Not at all. It's not even worth a matin?eprice. But it is a rental or waiting till HBO premieres it a year fromnow.

Why do a lot of people hate this?

This movie is pretty underrated and is flat-out hilarious. However,Seann William Scott steals the scenes. Bruce Willis is funny in thisone, and Tracy Morgan is also funny, but mildly annoying at times. Theother cast members did a good job at making their characters comealive. The scene after the credits is what you absolutely have to see!
And pay attention parents. There are good reasons why it is rated R.There is strong language, sexual situations, and some violence that issometimes shockingly brutal. But other than that, it's OK.
I personally recommend it and guarantee that you'll laugh at leasttwice, hopefully.
MPAA: Rated R for pervasive language including sexual references, violence, and brief sexuality
MY PERSONAL RATING: Rated R for language, some violence, and crudehumor

There's Good, Great, Amazing, then there's Kevin Smith.

I went into this movie with mixed thoughts. Kevin Smith is my favoritefilmmaker, and I looked forward to this film since it was inproduction. At the same time, early reviews of the film bashed thefilm. I knew not to get my hopes up, since i would likely getdisappointed. NOT THE CASE! I laughed my ass off this entire film.Although not written by Mr. Smith, the writing was great, and therewere obviously some lines thrown in by the actors and Kevin Smith. Thechoice of Bruce Willis to play a cop in an 80s cop movie satire wasbrilliant. The chemistry he has with his costar, Tracy Morgan (30Rock), was amazing. Morgan was charming and had brilliant delivery, andwhat he lacks in dramatic acting he has in comedic timing. Sean WilliamScott was knee-slappingly funny as the criminal who just can't seem totake a hint, and Rashida Jones and Jason Lee, as they always do, werestunning and perfectly cast. The action caught my attention as well. Ifyou're a fan of Kevin Smith, you're probably familiar with the "twodudes talking" method he takes. Set up a camera in one spot and do a 15minute scene without any cuts with just dialogue. This movie was a 180from that. If you ever watched a Kevin Smith film and liked it, butthought the directing lacked, this is his him making up for that. Look,it's not a candidate for Best Picture at the Oscars this year. But sowhat? It's a charming, delightful, hilarious, action-packed romp thatwill have you on the floor laughing. Go see this movie, it's worth yourmoney.

    Really really funny

I don't know what everyone else is on, but this movie was one of thebest comedies I've seen in years. It's a HOMage to 80s buddy copmovies. But this actually improves upon them, imo. It didn't have thatserious section that those did. This was wall to wall laughs. It wasn'tjust me. Everyone in my theater was laughing beginning to end.
The cast was sooooo perfect. He chose really funny people to fill outhis cast all the way down to a pretty small role for Adam Brody who Ididn't realize was hilarious until I saw him in 'Thank You for Smoking'where he was just great. I didn't like Tracy Morgan for a long time. Idon't know maybe I got used to him. But he's seemed okay on "30 Rock".He's hilarious in this. But the funniest of the funny is Seann WilliamScott. You should see it just for his role. Susie Essman, GuillermoDiaz, the 11 year old kid, everyone really makes it work. In thebeginning Willis looked a little bored, he works as often as anyone somaybe that should be expected, but eventually he got with it and thenit was all smooth sailing.
I've seen some bad reviews and I don't know why. Maybe you have to be amovie fan, or Gen X or something to get all the references. And thereis a doozy that references a cult favorite that I truly and loudlyLOL'd at. I'm sure I missed some jokes because I was laughing at otherones. But I'll catch it when I watch this one again. And I know thismovie is going to be super rewatchable. Even the songs they used wereperfect. I would only not recommend this to people who have a problemwith bad language. But why would they even be considering it anyway?

An homage to classic buddy cop films---a fun romp!

As an enormous Bruce Willis fan I was thrilled to see this movie. However, I was also very afraid and had mixed expectations for it.Although I have never really seen Tracy Morgan in much of anythingother than Saturday Night Live but I've never been a fan of his overthe top comedy. This is what I was afraid of. I thought even Brucecould get toppled by the stupidity of Morgan. On top of that KevinSmith and his over the top dirty humor can cause mixed feelings so Iwent very afraid to see one of my favorite action stars. What anabsolute relief!! First of all the film is downright hilarious. It ISdirty, and adult, and an all around hilarious romp. I admit I wouldhave liked just a tiny bit more action. Just a little bit. There wasjust a little bit of a drag in the middle. Kevin Smith is truly theultimate fanboy. Now he takes on action and builds the ultimate tributeto every fantastic, memorable buddy cop film you can think of.Definitely takes tribute to Beverly Hills Cop (the music especially),Lethal Weapon, even a little Die Hard (which gets an honorable EasterEgg mention from Willis,) 48 Hours, and so on. Add in some hilariousadult humor, some terrific chemistry and you have Cop Out, the bestbuddy cop comedy in years!!
Bruce Willis is the man. He has been one of my favorite actors foryears. In Cop Out he plays the laid back, one liner shooting, tough guyand that is when you really see his chemistry on screen. He isabsolutely perfect for the role that they likely created just for himotherwise he just fits it. The thing that literally blew me away themost about the film is the chemistry between Tracy Morgan and BruceWillis. I thought a lack of chemistry would be what killed the filmbecause buddy cops need to be...well buddies. Instead the two of themare terrific together. Morgan is silly and over the top and his nailson a chalkboard voice is well in play but somehow balances out toWillis'character. And they give him enough action and actual characterto make him fun and funny. The two of them together are awesome. Itdidn't make me want to see Morgan do anything else but this film isgreat for him. Guillermo D?az was good as the lead drug kingpin andvillain but the problem is that he was just good. I think I wanted tosee someone more powerful, a real dark threat in the film. Think Jet Lifrom Lethal Weapon or Alan Rickman in Die Hard. He just didn't reallyshow why he was in charge although the show down between Diaz andWillis and Morgan was still pretty decent but almost feltanti-climatic. Kevin Pollak and Adam Brody were welcome additions tothe supporting cast and they are used sparingly as comedic sidekicks. And finally Sean William Scott is thrown into the mix as a crazed, psycho cat burglar that is pretty decent, he had some really greatmoments and was just almost overused. Instead his role and his bitswith Morgan are hilarious and he is a cult character to this film whichis certain to become something of a comedy classic.
This is certainly not a usual Kevin Smith film and yet it has hisimprints all over it because it truly is a homage to great actionflicks. It is literally a laugh out loud, roll in the aisles comedywith some solid action scenes mixed in although nothing ever blows upsadly but plenty of crazy gunfire. I wish I could spend more time onthe supporting cast because its a huge cast with some really greatperformances including the obligatory Jason Lee cameo as Willis'ex-wife's new husband, Michelle Trachtenberg as Willis' daughter, andAna de la Reguera as the Mexican refugee that Morgan and Willis mustprotect. This is definitely one of Willis' best in years and I reallysincerely hope they consider a sequel although it might go the way ofAnother 48 Hours which was terrible compared to its original. Stillanyone who loves comedy, action, Smith, Willis or Morgan MUST see thisfilm because I guarantee you won't be disappointed. A shining gem!!9/10

Decent funny homage for classic cop-movies

I think people expected too much of this. I agree, the story has a lotof gaps and it's flaws but it isn't the worst it's actually decent. Thedialogue isn't bad, some jokes are over-used but there are pretty funnyscenes like for example the one in the car between the 2 cops and theguy who robbed them and so on. As far as character inter-relationshipit explores the oldest great cop-movies handling various states ofrelationship. Besides the the plot it's above mediocre but hilarious Imean ... people always expect much more (including myself) but we haveto be realistic that these days it's pretty hard for someone to delivera brand new idea because we've got about 100 years of film-making andstorytelling.
As far as acting Bruce Willis does his job well pulling out a prettynice character but Tracy Morgan was the problem. As much as I like him,he was more over-acting but still hilarious at points. Because of himsometimes you have the impression that these two guys don't have such agood chemistry, but like I said that's just in some of the scenes wereMorgan over-acts. The most hilarious character in this movie wasdefinitely Dave played by Seann William Scott.
The editing of the movie was OK but the cinematography was a little bitwashed-up once he used the shaky-camera way of filming. The music wasso and so... I mean I'm always into the score of the movies I watch, Ithink music is very important in a movie and here the music simply notdelivers constantly. It has big ups and downs through the movie.
The overall point is that the movie might seem ridiculous at one point, might have flaws and serious gaps and might lack of originality butit's a decent funny homage to old cop-movies and must be treated fair.I support this movie because I had plenty of moments where I waslaughing though some really "rolling on the floor laughing my ass off"scenes missed.

    This movie was hilarious!

This movie is hilarious! There's a few stand-out scenes that had meliterally in tears laughing so hard. There are a few moments wherenothing hilarious happens in it, like my friend says, but the scenesthat are funny are just too good. I DEFINITELY wouldn't mind watchingthis movie again. The interrogation scene in the beginning, the carride when the guy's in the backseat...f***** hilarious! I really don'tsee why this movie doesn't have a higher rating.
If you're like me, and you love anything related to comedy, then iwould highly recommend this movie. I keep telling my friend how this isa great year for comedy movies. Death at a Funeral, Grown Ups, Cop Out,Hot Tub Time Machine, Get Him to the Greek...Got me feeling likeMcDonald's...I'm loving it!

It ain't a Kevin Smith, or is it?

This was a weird and unexpected ride with moments of second thoughtsand many good laughs. And while you still sense the underlying touch ofthe creator of the askewniverse Kevin Smith, you are also very muchaware that this is not his stuff...
I will keep out details of the story in this one and just comment onthe work from a more (admitted) subjective point of view.
I will not lie to you, if it comes to Kevin Smith, I am a fan-boy... ^^I even follow him one twitter! But I do think that he deserves muchmore appreciation from the mainstream and the (artsy) intellectualaudience, then he gets, which makes me feel a little obligated to stepup for him... After all, I do really believe that he is one of thegreat contemporary movie makers; one that may not see the days hisgenius is recognized appropriately. There is a certain poignancy to hisdialogs and a great timing in his sense of humor, which I find to bethe reason, why even the lowest jokes can be funny, if done right - ifdone 'smithways' (< he'd love that term... 'cause it's also dirty...).As he admitted once, he is the only one in Hollywood, who would getaway with a 8 foot poop-monster... and did.
But enough of admiration, in 'Cop Out', it does seem like Smith istrying to cover new grounds with action-shots and faster cuts - almost'80ies-Action-Style(*). And that, he also admitted in previous Q&As, isnot his usual territory. He still did a good job and it may be more ofa insider thing among fans to notice that. It does not get into the wayof enjoying the movie at all and while it may seem to be a strangepace, it fits quite well.
It is hard to describe the acting. In some way the whole story seems tobe very self-cynical. There are moments that are just too much for arealistic buddy-cop-comedy, but the overall tone was much to sincere tobe a silly buddy-cop-comedy. And in that mix, it is hard to interpretcertain performances and wonder sometimes whether it was intentionallygoofy. But then again... there are prolonged scenes of clear silliness, that makes you wanna interpret the movie in a different way, moresmithways (gonna make a trope out of this one)...
Another thing that threw me off more then once, was the music. I am notsure if that overly funky digital music deliberately sounded like that,to invoke memories of Beverly Hills Cop - maybe as a sort of humoroushomage - or...
    * It does seem to correlate very well with the attempted 80ies actionstyle shots, but again feels as if it does not take itself tooseriously.
One of the obvious things that make this film enjoyable, is thechemistry. It must have been a lot of fun for the people working on it(which is one of the things, I am most certain, Smith also has a talentfor) and it reflects well on screen. It is lightheartedly funny. Andwhile the smithways approach did change the pace you'd expect from thiskind of movie, it added some very funny parts.
One star off for the music. Not because it did not work, but because itjust - on a subjective level - distracted me a few times. And anotherone because I think Smith works better, if the material is at leastpartly his. I'd like to know how much he actually contributed to thescript...
    Conclusio:
You do not need to be a Smith-fan to enjoy this flick. The characters, which are often like caricatures of clich?s, and the actors dynamicsmake this an enjoyable popcorn-movie; if you don't mind the occasionalbump in pace, which it makes up for with many heartfelt moments oflaughter and great dialog-bits.
I liked watching Smith stepping out of his comfort-zone and I lookforward to more of those steps (I would have just the right idea forthat one...), as long as he is more involved in the writing. And alsonice to see Willis and Smith working together as they said they wouldand I hope they'll do it again...

Best buddy cop action/comedy since Lethal Weapon

I knew this movie hadn't rocked the box office, but I love BruceWillis, Tracy Morgan, Seann William Scott and Kevin Smith, so I had towatch it.
Of course the plot is pretty weak, but action is sufficiently highenergy for most males and the Willis/Morgan chemistry is great and theyare excellent straight/funny men. Scott added into the mix doing somereally annoying, but funny, ad libbing meant that I thoroughly enjoyedthis film. I must have had a good out-loud laugh every couple ofminutes.
If you liked Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, or watch 30 Rock, thisis worth your time.
